YANCY

By Tony D. Baker

The first time I saw Yancy perform in concert, she was only 16 years old. I was volunteering as a youth leader at Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma and she was about to come out with her very first album, Big Weather Change. I knew she was going to do well, long before she won awards from the Gospel Music Association, 7Ball Magazine, and Word Records. Now she can be found performing in local youth groups, camps, and church conferences as well as live on stage with music groups such as Newsboys, Sonic Flood, 4HIM, The Waiting, Plumb and many others.

Yancy's not your typical performer; she's also a very talented songwriter as well. Last month we told you about some of the great hits found on WOW2003, and low and behold, there's one of Yancy's songs, "I don't want to go" performed by none other than Avalon!

April 2002 brought us the release of Yancy's most popular album to date, Adeline Street. This album is her most intimate, soul-searching album with a vigor and passion for God. Yancy's Adeline tour has included destinations such as Stockholm Sweden and Cameroon, Africa. But I have to admit, my favorite song of all time is Yancy's "Roses and Rainbows" from her album 6.5 Stories.

You probably won't find Yancy performing for 70,000 people at a time, but you will find that regardless of whether she's singing in front of a room of 7 or 7000, that her primary interest is in expressing her love and relationship with God. Visit Yancy's site at http://www.YancyNotNancy.com and be sure to listen to her wide selection of music samples.
